Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX)

BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: Taxi

BASICS
The airport is six miles (10 km) east of the center of Mexico City. There are tourist office counters on the ground level of the terminal, near the car rental counters. The airport does not have a Web site. A bit of useful information, however, is that the international arrivals hall is "Sala E" while the domestic arrivals hall is "Sala A."

TAXI
There is an official taxi service counter in the arrivals area where you will pay a set fare to your destination. Taxis are regulated, but there are many unregulated cars working the airport. For safety and comfort, stay away from these and only pay the regulated fare at the official taxi counter.

It will cost around 100 pesos to 150 pesos ($10 to $15, depending on your destination) to the city center and the Zona Rosa area of downtown Mexico City. Travel time around is about 30 minutes. The trip back to the airport will cost a little more. Always make sure the meter is reset when you enter the taxi.

METRO
There is Metro service from the airport to downtown, leaving from line 5 at Terminal Aérea. However, there is no luggage space, and you may have to transfer to get to Zona Rosa. This route is best suited to those who are traveling with only a backpack or briefcase. It is very cheap (about two pesos or twenty cents U.S.) and is a good way around the city during non-peak hours.

HOTEL VAN or LIMO
Some hotels provide a van service from the airport. More often, they will recommend that you phone the concierge to order a private car or limo to pick you up at the airport. This is, of course, a safe and comfortable--though not inexpensive--way to get into Mexico City from the airport. Check when making your hotel reservation.
