Auckland Airport (AKL)
BEST WAY DOWNTOWN: AirBus
BASICS Auckland International is 15 miles (23 km) from the city center. A tourist information desk is open from 5:00 A.M. until after the last arrival of the day, and is located on the same floor as the international arrivals area. Another visitor's center, on the ground floor of the domestic terminal, is open from 7 A.M. to 10 P.M.
TAXI Taxis are available outside each terminal. A ride to the center of the city will take about 30 minutes, and the fare will be about $40 New Zealand dollars ($22).
AIRBUS Deceptively named, the AirBus has wheels, big ones. Every 20-30 minutes, from 6:30 A.M. to 10 P.M., it leaves the international terminal for the Downtown Airline Terminal, stopping at the rail station and at any bus stop when requested. The trip takes 30 to 40 minutes, and costs $12 New Zealand dollars ($5).
